3-D Secure authentication for card payments

About the identity check (3-D Secure) performed when paying by credit card.

Last updated: July 12, 2026

When you pay for a card by credit card, your card issuer may require identity verification (3-D Secure).

What is 3-D Secure?

It's an identity check that helps prevent fraud. Your card issuer may ask you to enter a one-time password or approve the payment in an authenticator app.

Steps

  1. Pay by credit card (see Buy a card and pay).
  2. When your card issuer's authentication screen appears, follow the instructions to authenticate.
  3. Once authenticated, the payment is confirmed.

If it doesn't work

If authentication fails, check with your card issuer. You can also pay with a different card or with crypto.
